A Few Things You Don't Know About Me

I used to ROCK a side pony tail when I was younger. Really, I did. I couldn't manage to get a ponytail centered on the back of my head, either my arms weren't long enough or I was just extremely uncoordinated and untalented when it came do doing my own hair. Either way,
 I rocked it.

I love the smell of rain.

I love history.

I have a favorite tree in Springville, that if you get to the biggest branch near the top, you can lay flat on your back and look at the stars. I did that a lot growing up.

I have a BOOK FETISH. At last count I had around 1,200. But that was last summer, and I've gotten at least 8 books a month since then (some months 20 or more....). --And, yes, I've read them all, numerous times.

If I could go one place in the entire world, it would be Scotland. Which I plan on taking myself to as a graduation present next spring.

I hold grudges.

I find peace in silence.

The winner of a laughing contest is the one whose stomach hurts the worst after, I love laughing contests.

Some days I think I am honestly gorgeous, and others, honestly hideous.

I can shape my tongue into a 3-leaf clover.

And that, my friends, is talent.

Hello Stranger

And then one day you realize that you are walking down a path you had never imagined.
One you would have never chosen for yourself. But this is still where you find yourself. Walking down a path that is sometimes aimless, trying to wander away from it and forge your own path.

But this is the result of the past.
Of mistakes.
Choices.
Good things and bad.

When I was younger, had someone painted a picture of my current life and asked who it was - to me, it would have been a stranger - a stranger who happened to look a lot like me.

Today, if someone were to paint a picture of my current life, of me, and ask who it was - the answer would be the same. It's a stranger.
A stranger who happens to look a lot like me.

Life is hard. Finding yourself... even harder. We all walk a path we would have never imagined for ourselves.
Possibly never chosen for ourselves either.
But this is the result of the past.
Of mistakes.
Choices.
Good things and bad.

Washington!

This is in the Hoh Rain Forest.
The trail that led here to the Hall of Mosses was awesome. While I was there, someone walking in front of me on the trail said to his walking companion "So.... I'm not really sure why they would name this the
Hall of Moses,
I don't see pictures of him or anything anyway... so weird...."
Ha!
 Learn to read people.
Learn to read.

You can see a little better why it's called the Hall Of Mosses in this photo. Moss covered everything, and it was gorgeous.

Another reason why I love Washington. They too have amusing signs. This was on the window of the visitor's center- a warning to all hikers.
Gotta love it.

I wanted to bring this phone home with me. I love the fact that it is completely covered in moss. And I was jealous. Who wouldn't want one of these in their living room, right? I kid, I kid.

Oregon is Better

This is a little post I like to call "Why Oregon is Better than Wherever You Live".Oregon - Astoria in fact- invented cable television. So wherever you live couldn't have possibly done that.
Oregon has a fondness for over the top street signs. Which I find intensely amusing. This sign is a warning to all bikers who might think to attempt driving over the trolley tracks. Oregon has extremely high-class decorating skills. I think everyone should put SAND in the bottom of their very attractive flower arrangements. Most def.
Can you honestly tell me you have landscapes like this? That are a pretty constant color of beautiful green? If not, Oregon is better than wherever you live. Really.
Again, the very descriptive "you will get hurt" signs. They are really all over the place. I have more to share later :).

This is a panoramic shot, so it didn't pull up as big here on blogger, but really, this view is breathtaking. I'm in a tower about 200 feet up while taking this shot. It was even more stunning in person. Which is why Oregon is better. Don't you agree?

Favorite Quote of the Week

Maybe we like the pain. Maybe we're wired that way. Because without it, I don't know; maybe we just wouldn't feel real. What's that saying? Why do I keep hitting myself with a hammer? Because it feels so good when I stop. - Meredith Grey

Sidenote:

I like this quote for this week-- because sometimes days and hours are so painful and long that the only thing you can do is revel in the pain. Someone once said "time heals all wounds", but I don't believe that. I believe time strengthens the pain for some and the other lucky ones-- time dulls their pain, but I don't think it ever heals it.

And sometimes... it's better to feel pain, than nothing at all, it's better to feel anger, rage even, than nothing at all.

Phone Calls

I work as the executive assistant to the CEO of a company based out of Provo. As such, I get a lot of random sales calls, strangers wanting to talk to my boss, and people who PRETEND that they know my boss so that they can talk to him.

But, phone calls that come in for my boss go one of two ways:

1. To my direct extension

2. To my voicemail

Some people suffer under the misapprehension that if they say they know him they will be passed along. They are wrong.

Others try a more creative approach, which means- they call repeatedly, hoping for a glitch in the system. They are also wrong.

Then, there is the winner that called today. He's been through the system more than once. He is what you would consider a frequent flyer in the "trying to get a phone call through to Amys' boss" program.

So he begins today by asking the receptionist to speak directly with me.

He is transferred.

He then acts completely shocked that he is speaking with ME and not my boss. Go figure.

This guy asks if my boss is in the office, and I reply with the same answer I've told him countless times "He's not available right now, can I please take a message?"

To which he replies, "No, I'll just leave him a message on his voicemail".

Yeah buddy, that would be MY VOICEMAIL. This man is a GENIUS.

So, I transferred him to my voicemail..... I'm sure he will be calling again tomorrow.
